ÖZET
Ekonomik
fırsatın arttığı ve sosyal değişimin zorunlu hale geldiği
böyle bir ortam, çok güçlü etkileri sayesinde, metodist
cemaati bütünüyle biçimlendirmiştir. Metodistlerin
zihniyeti, kazanabildiğin kadar kazan buyruğu için, üretken
bir temeli oluşturmuştur. Artık bundan sonra, ekonomik
canlılığın sağlandığı her yerde, enerjik ve acımasız bir
ciddiyet içinde metodist cemaat üyelerinin, kendilerini iş
etkinliklerine adamış halde görünmesi, asla şaşırtıcı
değildir. Kişisel sertlikle kendisine hakim olmayı ve katı
ahlaki kurallar bütünüyle kendisini işine adamayı emreden
metodistin, iş etkinliğindeki bu tutumu , kendisine , hiç
sarsılmaz bir ün kazandırmıştır. Metodistin , disiplinle
biçimlenen karakteri, ile , mesleki başarısı arasında
doğrudan bir bağlantı kurulmuştur.

ABSTRACT
In a
situation where increasing economic opportunity and the
impulse to social change were moulding the entire methodist
community by their potent influence. The mind of methodists
would constitute fertile ground for injunction which bade
them, gain all you can. It is not surprising, then, to find
that members of the methodist community revival economic
activity everywhere devoted themselves to the activities of
business enterprise with vigour and a stern seriousness. The
personal austerily and the rigid moral code by which the
methodist ordered his conduct in his business activities
acquired the force of a settled reputation. There was a
direct relation between the methodist discipline of
character and his occupational success.
